Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 38 words
(1) A sliding member, characterized by a process of manufacture which comprises firing a shaped mass of silicon powder obtained by the silica reduction method and cutting a resultant sintered ceramic mass in a prescribed shape by machining.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 73 words
(2) A sliding member according to Claim 1, wherein said silicon nitjride is obtained by mixing silicon dioxide powder and carbon powder of excess amount realtive to the reaction equivalent weight in conjunction with a small amount of a reaction catalyst selected from among silicon powder, silicon nitride powder, and silicon carbide powder and roasting the resultant mixture in an atmosphere of nitrogen at a temperature in the range of 1,350°C to 1,600°C.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 31 words
(3) A sliding member according to Claim 1, wherein said dilicon nitride powder comprises at least 95% of d-phase silicon nitride and has an average particle diameter less than 1 um.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
(4) A sliding member according to Claim 1, wherein said silicon nitride powder contains not more than 10% by weight of a sintering aid.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 39 words
(5) A sliding member according to Claim 1, wherein said silicon nitride powder contains 0.5 to 10% by weight of yttrium oxide (Y 0 ) and 0.1 to 10% by weight of aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3 ).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 27 words
(6) A sliding member according to Claim 1, wherein said firing is carried out in an inert atmosphere under pressure of 1.5 to 50 kg/cm 2 .
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 20 words
(7) A sliding member according to Claim 1, wherein said firing is effected by the use of a hot press.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 36 words
(8) A sliding member according to Claim 1, wherein said sintered ceramic mass out in said prescribed shape by machining is subjected to a heat treatment at 800°C to 1,200 C for one to 100 hours.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 15 words
(9) A sliding member according to Claim 1, wherein said sliding member is a bearing.
