Abstract

In order to produce a calcium hydroxide with a particularly large specific surface by separating the individual reaction steps in space and time in processes for the production of dry calcium hydroxide by extinguishing finely divided or ground, softly burned lime, the lime is extinguished with an extinguishing liquid consisting of water and a reaction-delaying organic solvent mixed intensively and homogeneously. The extinguishing liquid, consisting of 30 to 50 parts by volume of water and 50 to 70 parts by volume of the organic solvent, is mixed with the lime at a temperature below 45 ° C in a mixing vessel (2). The reaction mixture is then transferred to a main reaction vessel (4), where it is brought to a temperature of 50 to 70 ° C. by means of a heating device. The final reaction takes place in a further reaction vessel (5). In the mixing vessel (2), the ratio of lime to extinguishing liquid is selected so that a final reaction temperature of 85 to 110 ° C. is reached in the further reaction vessel (5).
