Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim
118 words
An intraocular lens for placing into the posterior chamber of an eye, comprising (a) a lens body (2) (b) leg means (3), comprising a plurality of filament-like legs (3) having one end (4) attached to said lens body and a free end (14), for centering the lens body in the posterior chamber when each of said legs (3) is in an unretracted position, wherein at least one of said legs (3) is capable of moving into said unretracted position from a retracted position in which said leg (3) is closer to the lens body (2) than when in said unretracted position, and (c) means in said lens body for releasably holding said movable leg in said retracted position.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
14 words
A lens according to Claim 1 having two of said filament-like legs (3A, 3B).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
23 words
A lens according to Claims 1 or 2 wherein said means (c) comprises groove means (17) in the edge of said lens body.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
55 words
A lens according to Claims 1 or 2 wherein said means (c) comprises means, for example one or more posts (16), projecting from the anterior or posterior surface of said lens body for restraining said movable leg by abutment of said leg against the side of said means closer to the center of the lens body.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
101 words
A lens according to any one of the preceding claims wherein said leg means (3) comprises a pair of legs (3A, 3B) which are attached to said lens body (2) at diametrically opposed points (4,4), each leg being characterized in that when in its rest position its free end (14)is closer to the center of the lens than to its own point of attachment (4) to the lens body (2) and wherein said legs (3A, 3B) center the lens in the eye of the wearer by tangential contact by each leg against the tissue of the posterior capsule of the eye.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
78 words
A lens according to any one of the preceding claims wherein each of said legs (3) defines in its rest position an arc of a circle having a radius larger than that of said lens body (2), or an arc of an ellipse whose minor axis is greater than the radius of said lens body (2) and wherein in said retracted position the movable leg (3) lies entirely alongside or within the circumference of said lens body (2).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
60 words
A lens according to any one of the preceding claims and further comprising (d) cooperating means on said movable leg (3), wherein said cooperating means and said means for releasably holding said movable leg (3) are configured to interlock releasably with each other, wherein when said means are interlocked said movable leg (3) is thereby held in said retracted position.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
67 words
A lens according to Claim 7 wherein said cooperating means is located on the half of said movable leg (3) which is further from the point at which said leg (3) is attached to said lens body (2) or wherein said cooperating means is located at the end (14) of said movable leg and wherein said means (c) is located on the edge of said lens body.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
41 words
A lens according to Claims 7 or 8 wherein said means (c) is a cavity (7), which may be a hole passing through said leg (3), and said cooperating means (d) is a lug (6) adapted to fit into said cavity.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
60 words
A lens according to Claims 7 or 8 wherein said cooperating means (d) is a cavity (11), which may be a hole passing through said leg (3), and said means (c) is a lug (9) or a lobe (10) adapted to fit into said cavity wherein said lug (9) is on the anterior or posterior surface of said lens body.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
34 words
A lens according to Claims 7 or 8 wherein one of said means (c) and (d) comprises a hook, and the other of said cooperating means comprises a notch adapted to engage said hook.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
64 words
A lens according to Claims 7 or 8 wherein said cooperating means (d) is a lobe (10) having a neck portion (12) narrower than said lobe (10), and said means (c) is a plurality of posts projecting from the anterior or posterior surface of said lens body, wherein said posts define therebetween a gap through which said neck, but not said lobe, can pass.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
60 words
A lens according to any one of the preceding claims wherein two of said legs (3A,3B) are capable of moving into their unretracted positions from retracted positions in which said legs (3A, 3B) are closer to the lens body (2), and further comprising means in said lens body for releasably holding each of said movable legs in said retracted positions.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
65 words
The method of correcting the vision of an eye from which the natural lens has been removed, comprising releasably holding at least one leg of a lens according to Claim 1 in its retracted position, then inserting the lens into said eye, releasing each leg held in a retracted position from its retracted position, and centering the lens within the posterior chamber of said eye.
