Method and apparatus for measuring rotation rate using the Sagnac effect
Abstract
For rotation rate measurement and digital rotation rate reading using a fiber interferometer using the Sagnac effect, three partial light beams (4, 5, 6) are preferably generated via an acousto-optical modulator (3) operated in the Raman-Nath area, one of which (5) is unmodulated in one direction is introduced into a fiber spool (10). while the second and third partial light beams are increased or decreased by the same frequency values and are introduced alternately or continuously in the opposite direction into the fiber spool (10). After passing through the fiber coil, the partial light beams are received by a photodetector and fed to regulators for generating the difference frequencies. The differential frequencies obtained are subtracted from one another in a weighted manner or summed and evaluated as a rotation rate or as a measure of the temperature of the fiber spool.
