Process and apparatus for separating impure argon
Abstract
A process for the decomposition of a raw gas mixture is described which essentially contains argon and small amounts of oxygen and optionally nitrogen. The raw gas mixture (4) is liquefied (in 5), brought to the desired pressure in the liquid state using its hydrostatic potential and evaporated (in 7). Hydrogen (10) is then fed to the raw gas mixture, which is reacted with the oxygen to form water (in FIG. 11), which is separated off (in FIG. 12). The remaining gas mixture is at least partially liquefied (in 15) and broken down into a liquid argon fraction (21) and a residual gas fraction (22) by rectification (17).
