Process for the simultaneous preparation of carboxylic-acid anhydrides and, optionally, carboxylic-acid esters
Abstract
In the process for the joint production of carboxylic acids and carboxylic anhydrides and, if appropriate, carboxylic acid esters of the general formulas RCOOH, RCOOCOR or RCOOR, where R in each case means the same alkyl radical with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, dialkyl ethers of the general formula ROR are used with alcohols of the general formula ROH in a molar ratio of 9: 1 to 1: 9 under anhydrous conditions with carbon monoxide and optionally hydrogen in the presence of one of carbonyl complexes of noble metals from group VIII of the periodic table; an alkali, organophosphonium or organoammonium iodide; an alkyl iodide of the general formula RI; and, if appropriate, catalyst system consisting of compounds of carbonyl-forming base metals of groups IV, V, VI, VII and VIII of the periodic table at temperatures of 50 to 250 ° C. and pressures of 0.1 to 120 bar.
