Abstract

Electrochemical storage cells (20) which are connected in series with further storage cells (20) must be able to be electrically bridged in the event that they become high-resistance. According to the invention, each bridging cell (20) has a bridging element (1) connected in parallel, which is formed by a semiconductor component (2) that is at least partially surrounded by an electrically conductive layer (3) and connected to the via electrical connection elements (7, 8) positive and the negative connection pole (25, 26) of the memory cell is connected. If the memory cell functions correctly, the semiconductor component is switched in the blocking direction. If the memory cell (20) has a high resistance, a voltage reversal occurs at its current collectors (25, 26), so that a voltage reversal also takes place at the connection elements (7, 8) of the bridging element (1) and the semiconductor component (2) is switched in the forward direction. The current is now taken up by the bridging element (1). The increasing diode current causes a temperature rise within the bridging element (1), which causes the semiconductor component (2) and the adjacent electrically conductive layer (3) to melt, so that these are alloyed together to form a short-circuit element which takes over the current permanently can.
