Abstract

Abstract A chair back, particularly intended for an automobile seat, is provided with a support part (6) suspended in a frame structure (2) having two elongated side elements (10, 11) which extend along the chair back and which are connected together by means of connecting members. The connecting members are held tensioned, by suspending the side elements in the frame structure. Each side element (10,11 ) is arranged to co-act with a respective tensioning device (16, 17) connected to both ends of a respective side element. The tensioning devices are arranged to subject the side elements to buckling forces of such high magnitude as to cause the side elements to arch, with the centre regions of the arch facing forwards. In this way, there is formed a support for the lumbar region, or small of the back. The chair back also includes an adjusting means (20) which is arranged to co-act with the tensioning devices in a manner to adjust the position of the lumbar support, by changing the size of the arch.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 182 words
A chair back, particularly intended for an automobile seat, having a support part (6) suspended in a frame structure (2), in which two elongated, preferably rod-like side elements (10,11) extend along the chair back and are connected by means of a plurality of transverse connecting members (12) which are held tensioned by resiliently suspending each side element in a respective adjacent side part (14,15) of the frame structure, characterized in that each side element (10,11) is arranged to co-act with a respective tensioning device (16,17) connected to both ends of a respective side element; in that each side element is arranged to be subjected to buckling forces by a respective tensioning device such as to cause said each side element to arch, with the centre region of the arc thus formed facing forward, thereby to form a lumbar support (8) comprising the connecting members (12) extending between the two side elements (10,11); and in that the tensioning devices are arranged to co-act with an adjusting means (20) in a manner to adjust the lumbar support by changing the size of said arch.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 182 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 50 words
A chair back according to Claim 1, characteri- - zed in that each tensioning device (16,17) includes an engaging means (18) which is arranged to co-act with said adjusting means (20) and which has extending therefrom connecting devices (19), which are connected to a respective end of the side element.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 68 words
A chair back according to Claim 1, characterized in that the adjusting means (20) includes a rotatable adjusting shaft (21) which is located substantially on the same level as the centre regions of the side elements (10,11) and which is arranged to be acted upon by the tensioning devices (16,17); and in that at least one end of the adjusting shaft has a regulating means (7) mounted thereon.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
A chair back according to Claim 3, characterized in that the regulating means (7) is journalled on the frame structure (2) and is connected to the adjusting shaft (21) via a twistable connector (23).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 38 words
A chair back according to Claim 3, characterized in that the engaging means (18) are in screw-thread engagement with the adjusting shaft (21), and are arranged to move in mutually opposite directions along said shaft, upon rotation thereof.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 32 words
A chair back according to Claim 3, characterized in that the engaging means (18) are non-rotatably mounted on the adjusting shaft (21), to enable winding and unwinding of the connecting devices (19).
