Abstract

Abstract A system is provided for locating a mobile telephone subscriber within the range of a wide geographic surface (5), consisting of a plurality of mobile telephone exchanges (CM," CM B ,...CM N ) each of which controls an area and comprises means for monitoring the presence of mobile telephones within its own area, said exchanges being connected to a common broadcasting center (CN) capable of receiving request for the location of mobile telephones from each of the said exchanges and transmit them (for example via satellite) to all the exchanges of the system. Upon such a request, the mobile telephone exchange in whose area the paged mobile telephone is located will send information on its own identity and on that of the mobile telephone subscriber to the common centre, whereupon the common centre will transmit this data to the exchange which issued the request, or directly to this originating exchange. The originating exchange is then able to make the connection to the concerned subscriber.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 164 words
A system for locating a mobile subscriber within the range of a wide geographic surface, consisting of a plurality of mobile telephone exchanges, each of which is connected with the telephone network and arranged for controlling in a known manner its own cell-structured area, characterized in that all above mobile telephone exchanges are connected either directly or indirectly via a data transmission network with at least one common broadcasting centre, in that each of said mobile telephone exchanges comprises means for monitoring the presence of mobile subscribers with its own area, sending to said common broadcasting centre location requests for mobile subscribers who are not present in its own area and receiving information on the position of mobile subscribers who are outside the area to which they belong and in that said common broadcasting centre comprises means for receiving from each of said mobile telephone exchanges location requests and for transmitting by suitable means paging messages to all the mobile exchanges of the system.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
A system according to claim 1, characterized in that said common broadcasting centre includes means for the connection with a radio communication centre.
Claim 4
Independent Claim 21 words
A system according to claims 1 and 2, characterized in that said radio communication centre is a terrestrial radio transmission system.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 21 words
A system according to claims 1 and 2 characterized in that said radio communication centre is located in a geostationary satellite.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 228 words
A procedure for making a connection within the range of a wide geographic surface covered by a mobile telephone service, with a mobile subscriber who is outside his own area, including the following stages : - automatic transmission from said mobile subscriber's unit of his identity (number and area code) to the C M exchange of the host area, at a low repetition rate, for the purpose of indicating the presence of said mobile subscriber in said area, - routing of a call to said mobile subscriber to the CM exchange to which he belongs, - relaying a paging request from said CM exchange to a common broadcasting centre CN, - broadcasting by said national centre of a paging message to all the mobile telephone CM exchanges, either directly or via a satellite, - comparing in each of the CM exchanges of the paging message with the information regarding the presence of mobile subscribers in that specific area at that particular time, - transmission by the CM exchange in whose area the paged mobile subscriber happens to be present, of a local paging message and allocation to the mobile subscriber of a provisional number together with the identification of the host area, - transmission of all above data plus other possible useful data to the CM exchange concerned, - making the connection according to the normal telephone procedures.
