Abstract

Abstract A transmitter assembly for a telephone set uses a commercially available cartridge electret transmitter, by modifying the response curve. This is obtained by an adapter housing the transmitter with a first volume defined between the end of the transmitter and the end of the bore in which the transmitter fits. At the end of the bore there is an end wall with a hole therethrough, the hole covered with a layer of acoustic resistance material. A second volume is formed on the other side of the end wall, by a hollow formation on the wall of the transmitter housing of the handset. A slot is formed in the transmitter housing wall within the formation. The first volume provides damping, the hole and acoustic resistance material provides dB limitation at a particular frequency (1000 Hz) and the second volume and slot provide resonance at a second frequency (3000 Hz).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 148 words
A transmitter assembly for a telephone handset, characterized by a cartridge electret microphone 10 and an adaptor 11 enclosing the microphone, the said adaptor having a tubular housing 12 defining a cylindrical bore, a ledge 21 extending around the bore a predetermined distance from a front end of the bore, deformable means 19 extending into the bore at a rear end, the cartridge microphone 10 being a snap insertion past the deformable means 19 and being held between the deformable means 19 and the ledge 21, an end wall 13 extending across the front end of the bore and defining with the microphone a first volume, a hole 14 extending through the wall 13 and a layer of acoustic resistance material 17 extending over the hole, and means 27, 28, 41 defining a second volume on the side of the end wall 13 remote from the first volume.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 148 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 61 words
An assembly as claimed in claim 1, the means defining a second volume characterized by a transmitter housing 27 of the telephone handset, the transmitter housing 27 having a front face 41, and a tubular formation 28 extending from an inner side of the front face 41, the adaptor 11 seated on an inner end surface of the tubular formation 28.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 57 words
An assembly as claimed in claims 1 or 2, the tubular housing defining the cylindrical bore characterized by a plurality of slots 18 extending from a back end of the tubular housing 12, and a shallow rib 19 extending inward at the back end, the shallow rib 19 forming the deformable means 19 extending into the bore.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
An assembly as claimed in claim 2, characterized by a slot 42 extending through the front face 41 within the tubular formation 28.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 67 words
An assembly as claimed in claim 4, characterized by the first volume being of a predetermined value to provide predetermined damping, the acoustic resistance of the acoustic resistance material 17 being of a vlaue to limit the peak to 14 dB rise at 1000 Hz, and the second volume being of a predetermined value to produce, in combination with the slots 42, a resonance at 3000 Hz.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 49 words
An assembly as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized by an annular rib 15 extending from a front surface of the end wall 13 coaxial with the bore, the layer of acoustic resistance material 17 being attached to the front surface within the annular rib 15.
