Abstract

Abstract In a waterproof optical fiber cable for use in a communication system, one or more optical fibers are loosely put in grooves (4) formed along a spacer (2) and a plurality of filled portions (6) are formed in each of said grooves (4) by being filled with dampproof material at predetermined intervals so as to provide a plurality of filled portions (6) and unfilled portions (8) alternately, whereby undesired local bending of the optical fibers can be prevented. Also a method of making the waterproof optical fiber cable having such filled portions and unfilled portions is disclosed.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 122 words
A waterproof optical fiber cable (1) for use in a communication system characterised by: an elongate spacer means (2) formed with at least one groove (4) extending along the spacer means (2); optical fiber means (5) loosely provided in said at least one groove (4); a plurality of filled portions (6) formed in said at least one groove (4) by being filled with dampproof material at predetermined intervals along the longitudinal direction of the spacer (2) so as to provide a plurality of filled portions (6) and unfilled portions (8) alternately; and means (9) for covering at least the outer surface of the filled portions without forming any gap between the outer surface of the filled portion and the covering means (9).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 122 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 132 words
A waterproof optical fiber cable (1) for use in a communication system characterised by: an elongate spacer means (2) formed with at least one groove (4) extending along the spacer (2); optical fiber means (5) loosely put in said at least one groove (4); a plurality of first filled portions (6) formed in said at least one groove (4) by being filled with dampproof jelly material at predetermined intervals along the longitudinal direction of the spacer (2); second filled portions formed with dampproof powder material (7) in respective said intervals (8) between said first filled portions (6); and means (9) for covering the outer surface of the first and second filled portions (6,7) without forming any gap between the outer surface of the first filled portions (6) and the covering means (9).
Claim 4
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 33 words
A waterproof optical fiber cable according to claim 1 or 2 wherein said spacer means (2) is reinforced by a reinforcing strip (3) extending in the center portion of the spacer means (2).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 32 words
A waterproof optical fiber cable according to claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein said spacer means (2) is formed with a plurality of grooves (4) extending helically along the spacer means (2).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 39 words
A waterproof optical fiber cable according to any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein said covering means is formed by winding tape means (9) around the outer surface of the spacer means (2) through said filled means (6).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 25 words
A waterproof optical fiber cable according to any one of claims 1 to 5 wherein said dampproof material (6) is in the form of jelly.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 25 words
A waterproof optical fiber cable according to claim 6 wherein the covering means (9) is formed over the total length of the spacer means (2).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 24 words
A waterproof optical fiber cable according to claim 7 wherein both side faces of the covering means (9) are provided with the jelly material.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 77 words
A method of making a waterproof optical fiber cable (1) characterised by: releasing spacer means (2) provided with groove means (4) extending along the spacer means (2), which is expanded relative to the optical fiber (5); putting the optical fiber (5) in the groove means (4); filling dampproof material (6,7) in the groove means (4) in discontinuous manner in synchronism with the releasing of spacer means (2); and covering at least portions filled with dampproof material (6,7).
Claim 12
