Abstract

Abstract A hemostasis valve (1) comprising a body (2) having a central passage, a seal (4) having a central aperture (14) therein, the seal being mounted in the central passage, and a diaphragm (5) having a wall member (37) with a slit (12) therein, the diaphragm being mounted in the central passage, the diaphragm wall member (37) having an inner bottom diaphragm surface (34), and an outer bottom diaphragm surface (21), the slit extending from the inner bottom diaphragm surface to the outer bottom diaphragm surface, the wall member having a diaphragm chamber (11), therewithin.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 176 words
A diaphragm (5; 132) for a self-sealing hemostasis valve (1), comprising a piece of resilient material having a dome shaped wall (37), said wall having an inner surface (34) and an outer surface (21), there being a single, linear slit (12; 112) extending through said wall (37) from said inner surface (34) to said outer surface (21) at the top of the dome, said diaphragm (5; 132) further comprising a pair of elongate ribs (38) on said outer surface (21), said ribs (38) being transverse to said slit (12; 112) and extending away from said slit (12; 112) and down the dome shaped wall (37) on opposite sides of said slit (12; 112) and providing substantially triangular profiles, so that a radially outer edge of each rib extends along the wall (24) of a valve passage when the diaphragm (5; 132) is mounted therein, and such that the resilience of said ribs (38) acts to close said slit (12; 112) and does close it when there is no catheter (C) inserted through said slit (12; 112).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 176 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 12 words
The diaphragm of claim 1 in which said resilient material comprises rubber.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
The diaphragm of claim 1 or 2 in which the slit (12; 112) passes symmetrically through the apex of the dome.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 17 words
The diaphragm of any preceding claim wherein the piece of resilient material also has a flange (32).
