Abstract

Abstract @ Disclosed is a tape cassette for short-time recording having an interchangeability with a long-playing standard tape cassette. The short-time cassette has the external size and functions substantially the same as that of the standard tape cassette. The casing of the short-time tape cassette is provided with a large aperture the area of which is made larger than that of an aperture formed in the bottom of the standard tape cassette, owing to the reduction in the diameters of the reel flanges. With this arrangement, it is possible to accommodate the mechanism including the tape path within the outside dimensions of the tape cassette, thus allowing miniaturization of the mechanism of the apparatus which handles the tape. At the same time, a perfect interchangeability between the short-time tape cassette and the standard tape cassette is obtained, so that users can operate both types of the tape cassette on an identical player such as a VTR.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 184 words
A tape cassette for short-time recording having an interchangeability with a standard tape cassette for a long-time recording, said standard tape cassette having a casing with a tape stretched on the front side thereof, said casing having a small aperture formed in the bottom thereof and accommodating a pair of large reels retaining the terminal ends of said tape, said pair of large reels being capable of being positioned at predetermined positions with a predetermined reel axis distance preserved therebetween, said tape cassette for short-time recording comprising: a casing having the same maximum external size substantially the same as that of said casing of said standard tape cassette and having a large aperture formed in the bottom thereof, said large aperture having a greater area than said small aperture and covering the region of said small aperture, said casing of said tape cassette for short-time recording accommodating a pair of small reels to which the terminal ends of said tape are secured, such that they are capable of being positioned at said predetermined positions with the same reel axis distance as said large reels.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 184 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 41 words
A tape cassette for short-time recording according to claim 1, wherein said casing has a recess extended rearwardly as viewed in the direction of said tape cassette, at a position different from that in the casing of said standard tape cassette.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 56 words
A tape cassette for short-time recording according to claim 2, further comprising a front cover pivotally carried by both side walls of said casing and adapted to cover the front side of said tape stretched at the predetermined position, said front cover being provided with side panels provided with notches fromed in the lower portions thereof.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 47 words
A tape cassette for short-time recording according to claim 1, wherein said casing has a first light-transmitting hole and a plurality of second light-transmitting holes which form a plurality of light paths in cooperation with said first light transmitting hole through the tape stretched in said casing.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 35 words
A tape cassette for short-time recording according to claim 4, comprising a pair of light paths between said first light transmitting hole and said second light transmitting holes, corresponding to the pair of small reels.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 76 words
A tape cassette for short-time recording according to claim 1, wherein said tape is connected to said pair of small reels through respective detection tapes having a light-transmissivity different from that of said tape, light transmitting holes formed in said casing such as to form light paths through said tape stretched in said casing, and light transmitting windows covering said light transmitting holes and arranged for detection of length of tapes wound on said small reels.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 280 words
A tape cassette for short-time recording having an interchangeability with a standard tape cassette for a long-time recording, said standard tape cassette having a casing with a tape stretched on the front side thereof, said casing having a small aperture formed in the bottom thereof and accommodating a pair of large reels retaining the terminal ends of said tape through detection tapes having a different light-transmissivity from said tape, said pair of large reels being locatable at predetermined positions with a predetermined reel axis distance preserved therebetween, said casing further having sensor holes formed in the bottom thereof and adapted for allowing tape end detecting means to come thereinto such that light paths are formed through said tape stretched in said casing, said tape cassette for short-time recording comprising: a casing having the same maximum external size substantially the same as that of said casing of said standard tape cassette and having a large aperture formed in the bottom thereof, said large aperture having a greater area than said small aperture and covering the region of said small aperture, said casing of said cassette for short-time recording further having a recess formed in the bottom wall thereof such as to continue from said large aperture substantially perpendicularly to and behind said tape stretched at the predetermined position from the position corresponding to said sensor hole formed in said casing of said standard tape cassette, said casing of said tape cassette for short-time recording accommodating a pair of small reels to which the terminal ends of said tape are secured, such that they are capable of being at said predetermined positions with the same reel axis distance as said large reels.
