Abstract
Abstract A crushing apparatus has a flexible sheath (1) which is adapted to be inserted into a body cavity with the aid of an endoscope. An operating wire (9) longer than the sheath is slidably inserted into the sheath. A collapsible basket (10) for seizing a calculus produced in a body cavity is coupled to the distal end of the operation wire and extends from the sheath. The proximal end of the sheath is connected to an operating section (18) for sliding the operating wire to extend or contract the basket. The operating section includes a rack (26) coupled to the operating wire and an operating handle (46) connected to the rack through a speed reduction mechanism (54). The reduction mechanism decelerates and transmits an operative force, which is supplied to the handle, to the rack, thereby sliding the operating wire.

A crushing apparatus for crushing a calculus produced in a body cavity, comprising: a flexible sheath including a rigid portion at the distal end thereof and adapted to be inserted into the body cavity; an operating wire longer than the sheath and slidably inserted into the sheath; a collapsible basket for seizing the calculus, said basket including a plurality of elastic wires coupled to the distal end portion of the operating wire and extending from the distal end of the sheath; and operating means for sliding the operating wire, relative to the sheath, so as to extend or contract the basket; characterized in that: said operating means (18) includes interlocking means (26) coupled to the proximal end side of the operating wire (9) and movable in association with the operating wire, and drive means including a speed reduction mechanism (54) engaging the interlocking means and adapted to decelerate and transmit an operative force to the interlocking means, thereby sliding the operating wire.

The crushing apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that said operating means (18) includes a body (20) removably connected to the proximal end of the sheath (1), said interlocking means includes a rack (26) slidably disposed inside the body, said speed reduction mechanism (54) includes a plurality of gears (45, 51, 53) one of which is in mesh with the rack, and said drive means includes an operating handle (46) coupled to the gears of the speed reduction mechanism and adapted to be operated from the outside of the body for the rotation of the gears.

The crushing apparatus according to claim 2, characterized in that said speed reduction mechanism (54) includes a first gear (45) rotatably mounted on the body (20), a second gear (51) having more teeth than the first gear and rotatably mounted on the body so as to be in mesh with the first gear, and a third gear (53) disposed inside the body to be rotatable together with the second gear and in mesh with the rack (26), and said operating handle (46) is rotatably mounted on the body and coupled to the first gear to rotate together with the first gear.
