Abstract

Abstract A cursor control for a video device incorporates a plurality of light beams arranged in paths adapted to be selectively interrupted by an operator's finger, for controlling speed and direction of cursor movement. Apparatus for the cursor control comprises a housing (10) having a recess (12, 14) for supporting a plurality of spaced apart light beams (18) and means (22, 70, 72, 62, 74, 78, 80, 84-87) for developing an electrical signal in responseto manual Interruption of one or more of said light beams by an operator, said signal being representative of movement of the cursor in a predetermined direction and at a predetermined speed according to the beam or beams interrupted. Means are provided for moving the cursor in a direction corresponding to the position of manual interruption from a control position (16).
