Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 28 words
A bone fracture fixation device which is substantially free from resorbable components and is capable in use of a gradual decrease in rigidity over the fracture healing period.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 28 words
A bone fracture fixation device which is substantially free from resorbable components and is capable in use of a gradual decrease in rigidity over the fracture healing period.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 29 words
A device as claimed in claim 1 the rigidity of which is capable of decreasing through mechanical fatigue or through softening of components by the action of body fluids.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 33 words
A device as claimed in claim 1 composed of high strength fibre reinforced polymers containing either no coupling agent between the fibres and the polymer matrix or a coupling agent susceptible to breakdown.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 25 words
A device as claimed in claim 1 provided with notches and/or pores which under repeated loading gradually extend to decrease the rigidity of the plate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 31 words
A device as claimed in claim 1 comprising at least two laminae bonded together only to a predetermined extent so that repeated loading results in progressive failure of the interlaminar bond.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 21 words
A device as claimed in claim 5 in which the laminae are bonded by fusion of thermoplastic particles between the laminae.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 33 words
A device as claimed in any of the preceding claims which is capable of a gradual decrease in axial rigidity over the fracture healing period while its bending rigidity is not substantially reduced.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 31 words
A device as claimed in claim 1 comprising in part a substance which softens gradually on exposure to body fluids without resorption, whereby the rigidity of the plate is gradually reduced.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 17 words
9 . A device as claimed in claim 1 in the form of a fracture fixation plate.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 33 words
A method of fixation of a bone fracture in which a device as claimed in claim 1 in the form of a plate is secured to the bone at points spanning said fracture.
