Effervescent denture cleansing composition

Claim 2

An effervescent denture cleansing composition utilizing as the sole bleaching agent a monoperphthalate.

Claim 3

A composition according to Claim 1, wherein the monoperphthalate is magnesium monoperphthalate.

Claim 4

The composition according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the monoperphthalate is incorporated into the composition in an amount of from 12% to 70%, preferably from 20% to 45%, by weight of the overall composition.

Claim 5

A composition according to Claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein a perborate monohydrate salt is present in the composition, the perborate monohydrate salt preferably being sodium perborate monohydrate.

Claim 6

An effervescent denture cleansing composition which comprises, as bleaching agents, a monoperphthalate and a water-soluble monopersulphate salt.

Claim 7

An effervescent denture cleansing composition which comprises, as bleaching agents, a monoperphthalate and a water-soluble monopersulphate salt.

Claim 8

A composition according to Claim 5, wherein the monopersulphate salt is potassium monopersulphate.

Claim 9

A composition according to Claim 5 or 6, wherein the magnesium monoperphthalate is present in an amount of from 15% to 60% by weight based on the overall composition, and the weight of monopersulphate to magnesium monoperphthalate is from 6:1 to 1:1.

Claim 10

A composition according to any preceding claim, wherein an effervescent agent and/or a sequestering agent is also present in the composition.

Claim 11

A composition according to any one of Claims 1 to 8, wherein sodium carbonate is present, in an amount sufficient that a solution of the composition has a pH of from 6.5 to 11.0.

Claim 12

A denture cleansing composition comprising: (a) a bleaching agent wherein the bleaching agent is (1) the magnesium salt of monoperphthalic acid or (2) a potassium monopersulphate and the magnesium salt of monoperphthalic acid; (b) an effervescent agent; (c) a sequestering agent; (d) a pressing aid; and (e) sodium carbonate; wherein the bleaching agent is preferably a mixture of magnesium monoperphthalate and a potassium monopersulphate, preferably with the weight ratio of monopersulphate to monoperphthalate being from 6:1 to 1:1.

Claim 13

A denture cleansing composition comprising: (a) a bleaching agent wherein the bleaching agent is (1) the magnesium salt of monoperphthalic acid or (2) a potassium monopersulphate and the magnesium salt of monoperphthalic acid; (b) an effervescent agent; (c) a sequestering agent; (d) a pressing aid; and (e) sodium carbonate; wherein the bleaching agent is preferably a mixture of magnesium monoperphthalate and a potassium monopersulphate, preferably with the weight ratio of monopersulphate to monoperphthalate being from 6:1 to 1:1.

Claim 14

A composition according to Claim 10, wherein the sodium carbonate is included in the composition in an amount of from 2% to 10%, such that a solution of the composition exhibits a pH in the range from 6.0 to 11.0, preferably 6.5 to 11.0, more preferably 7.0 to 9.0.

Claim 15

A composition according to Claim 5, 6, 7, 10 or 11, or to Claim 8 or 9 when appendant to Claim 5, 6 or 7, wherein the weight ratio of monopersulphate to monoperphthalate is 8:1 to 1:1.

Claim 16

A composition according to Claim 8, 10, 11 or 12, or to Claim 9 when appendant to Claim 8, wherein the effervescent agent is an anhydrous perborate salt or a mixture of a water-soluble organic acid and a water-soluble bicarbonate salt.

Claim 17

A composition according to Claim 13, wherein the anhydrous perborate is an anhydrous sodium perborate, ammonium perborate, potassium perborate, calcium perborate and magnesium perborate, and is preferably included in the composition in an amount of from 10% to 20% by weight based on the overall composition, and/or wherein the mixture of the organic acid and the bicarbonate salt is a mixture of one or more of citric acid, succinic acid and tartaric acid with one or more of sodium bicarbonate, ammonium bicarbonate and potassium bicarbonate, the organic acid and bicarbonate salt preferably being present in substantially equimolar quantities and the mixture preferably being present in the composition in an amount of from 22% to 30% by weight.

Claim 18

A composition according to any one of Claims 8 and 10 to 14, or to Claim 9 when appendant to Claim 8, wherein the sequestering agent is sodium tripolysulphate or ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid, the sequestering agent preferably being sodium tripolyphosphate utilized in an amount from 5% to 30% by weight of the overall composition.

Claim 19

A denture cleansing composition comprising: (a) a magnesium salt of monoperphthalic acid; (b) sodium carbonate; (c) sodium bicarbonate; (d) citric acid; and (e) a pressing aid; the composition being pressed into a tablet form or granulated.

Claim 20

A denture cleansing composition comprising: (a) a magnesium salt of monoperphthalic acid; (b) sodium carbonate; (c) sodium bicarbonate; (d) citric acid; and (e) a pressing aid; the composition being pressed into a tablet form or granulated.

Claim 21

A composition according to any one of Claims 10, 11 and 16, or to any one of Claims 12 to 15 when appendant to Claim 10 or 11, wherein the weight ratio of the magnesium salt to sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate and citric acid is in the range from 5:1 to 1:1; and the N A HCO 3 and citric acid are present in equimolar amounts, and together constitute from 20 to 40% by weight of the composition.

Claim 22

A composition according to Claim 10, 11, 16 or 17, or to any one of Claims 12 to 15 when appendant to Claim 10 or 11, wherein the pressing aid is present in the composition in an amount of from 0.3% to 0.8% by weight of the overall composition, and/or wherein the pressing aid is a polymeric tetrafluorocarbon (preferably a tetrafluoroethylene), a polyvinyl pyrrolidone, a water-soluble ethoxylated alcohol, a water-soluble ethoxylated phenol, a water-soluble ethoxylated organic acid or a mixture thereof.
