Abstract

Abstract @ A tape product which bears a visible message 16 which is changed when the tape is subjected to stress is adapted for use on containers and packages to indicate that the same container or package has been opened or the closure has been tampered with in an attempt to open the same. The message change is obtained by the tape backing 11 becoming opaque to obliterate one message 16 and provide a contrasting background for a different message 13.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 148 words
A stress-opacifying tamper indicating tape for use on closures comprising a stress-opacifying translucent polymeric backing having an exposed surface with printed indicium on said exposed surface of a translucent colored ink material, and the opposite surface of said backing has a coating of material of a color substantially similar to the color of said printed indicium, characterized in that indicium of a colored ink material contrasting with the color of said printed indicium and said coating is on the surface of said backing opposite said printed indicium and covered by said coating, whereby said indicium of contrasting color is visible from said exposed side of said backing until said backing is subjected to stress sufficient to opacify said backing and obliterate said contrasting color indicium and said coating defining a background color to thus enhance the visibility of said printed indicium against the background of the opacified backing.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 148 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 29 words
A tape according to claim 1 characterized by the fact that a layer of adhesive is applied to said coating of material defining said coating and said contrasting indicium.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 25 words
A tape according to claim 1 characterized in that a supporting film is laminated to said tape and adhered thereto by a layer of adhesive.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
A tape according to claim 3 characterized in that said supporting film is a translucent film secured by a layer of translucent adhesive to the exposed surface of said backing.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
A tape according to claim 3 characterized in that said supporting film is a biaxially oriented polypropylene, a polycarbonate, a polyethylene or a biaxially oriented polyester.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 17 words
A tape according to claim 3 characterized in that said supporting film is a heat shrinkable film.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words
A tape according to any preceding claim characterized in that said backing is a polystyrene/butadiene.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 20 words
A tape according to any preceding claim characterized in that said translucent ink material is a vinyl acrylic flexographic ink.
