Abstract

@ A monolithic glass bodies are prepared by mixing a solution of a silane in an alcohol Alkox y is gelled in an autoclave. It is heated to above the critical temperature of the alcohol and then the pressure is gradually released at the temperature reached. The fact that a pre-pressure is generated in the room by means of a gas which is so high that when heated to the desired temperature the total pressure is always higher than the saturation pressure of the solvent, boiling phenomena are avoided.
