Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 317 words
A dispenser (20, 70, 90, 110) for use with an aerosol container (23) having a valve (24) for dispensing aerosol from an outlet in the container, the valve having a hollow stem (25) which is movable relative to the container between an outer closed position and an inner discharging position of the valve, said dispenser including a housing (27,72,91,111) having a mouthpiece (29, 80, 121) and an air passage (26, 76, 99, 119) therethrough terminating at the mouthpiece, the housing being adapted to receive such an aerosol container (23), having a support block (31, 71, 92, 112) with a socket, adapted to receive the stem and a through orifice (32) communicating between the socket and the air passage, and said dispenser including latch means having parts (37, 40, 42, 45; 74, 77, 78; 94, 96, 98; 114, 116, 118) movable between an engaged position in which movement of the container and the support block toward each other upon the application of a force to bias the container and the support block toward each other is prevented and a release position in which movement of the container and the support block toward each other in response to said force is permitted causing the stem to move to its inner discharge position, the latch means comprising a vane (37, 74, 98, 118) mounted on the housing in the air passageway between the orifice and the mouthpiece for movement toward the mouthpiece under the influence of inhalation through the mouthpiece to release the latch means characterised in that the vane (37, 74,98,118) moves toward the mouthpiece (29, 80, 121) from a blocking to a non-blocking position with respect to the passageway (26, 76, 99, 119) in response to inhaling at the mouthpiece (29, 80, 121) and releases the latch means only during the application of said force to bias the container (23) and support block (31, 92,112) toward each other.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 317 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 54 words
A dispenser (20, 90, 110) as claimed in Claim 1 characterised in that the latch means cannot move to its release position when the vane (37, 98, 118) is in the non-blocking position prior to application of said force to bias the container (23) and the support block (31, 92, 112) toward each other.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 223 words
A dispenser (20, 90, 110) as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 characterised in that the vane (37, 98, 118) is mounted on the housing for pivotal movement about an axis (38) and has a drive surface (49) forming an arc about said axis (38), the parts of the latch means further comprising a rocker (40, 94, 114) mounted on the housing (27, 91, 111) for pivotable movement about a fulcrum (41, 93, 113) and a catch (42, 96, 116) pivotably mounted on the rocker (40, 94, 114) about a pivot axis (43, 97,117) remote from the fulcrum (41,93,113), the catch (42, 96, 116) having a driven edge surface (48) forming an arc about the pivot axis (43, 97, 117) adapted to engage the arcuate drive surface (49) on the vane (37, 98, 118), and a side surface disposed so that pivotal movement of the vane (37,98,118) from the blocking to the non-blocking position during the application of the force causes frictional driving engagement of the drive surface (49) with the driven surface (48) to pivot the catch (42, 96, 116) to afford movement of the side surface along the vane (37, 98, 118) and pivoting of the rocker (40, 94, 114) about the fulcrum (41, 93, 113) to afford movement of the support block (31,92,112) and container (23) toward each other.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
A dispenser as claimed in any preceding claim characterised in that the support block is fixed on the housing and the housing affords manual application of said force between said container and the housing.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 57 words
A dispenser as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 3 characterised in that the container is fixed on the housing, the support block is fixed on a member movable with respect to the housing, and the dispenser comprises a spring (100) adapted to be compressed and apply the force between said container and support block.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 37 words
A dispenser as claimed in Claim 5 comprising a cover (102) for the mouthpiece pivotably mounted on the housing and adapted to compress said spring (100) upon movement of the cover from closed to an open position.
