Abstract

The acetabular cup consists of a plastic socket body (1) and a ring (8) made of metal surrounding it. Both individual elements are connected to each other by an outer cone (6) and an inner cone (7). From both ends, slots (10) are made in the jacket of the outer ring (8), which extend at least over half the height of the jacket. The slots (10) allow the outer ring (8) to carry out the elastic movements of the pelvis so that the pan remains rigidly anchored in the bone despite these movements; when "setting" the outer ring (8) or when the plastic flows cold, the socket body (1) also settles due to the two cones (6, 7). It is therefore self-fixing, so that permanent relative movements between ring (8) and socket body (1) leading to abrasion are avoided.
