Abstract

Abstract A mirror assembly such as a covered mirror panel (10) having a rectangular frame (11) to which a mirror (16) is mounted. The mirror has a flexible cover (30) and guide means in the form of two spaced apart rods (44, 45) mounted to the frame for guidably supporting the cover via channels (22, 24) between a position covering the mirror (Figure 1) and a position exposing the mirror for use. The cover when not in use can retract into a housing. The mirror assembly may form part of a visor (70, 80) for a vehicle and the cover may be stored in a housing within the visor when not covering the mirror.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 61 words
A mirror assembly (10) characterised in that the assembly comprises a frame (11) with a mirror (16) mounted thereto, a flexible cover (30) for the mirror, and guide means (40,50) mounted to the frame for guidably supporting the flexible cover to permit movement of the cover between a position covering the mirror and a position to expose the mirror for use.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 61 words
A mirror assembly (10) characterised in that the assembly comprises a frame (11) with a mirror (16) mounted thereto, a flexible cover (30) for the mirror, and guide means (40,50) mounted to the frame for guidably supporting the flexible cover to permit movement of the cover between a position covering the mirror and a position to expose the mirror for use.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 46 words
A mirror assembly as claimed in Claim 1 in which the frame defines a housing extending adjacent the mirror, the cover being movable between a position extended from the housing and covering the mirror to a position within the housing to expose the mirror for use.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 35 words
A mirror assembly as claimed in Claim 2 in which the guide means comprise rod means (44,45) positioned within the housing for supporting the cover which wraps around the rod means when within the housing.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 62 words
A mirror assembly as claimed in Claim 3 in which the flexible cover comprises rigid edge members (32,36) extending along opposite edges thereof and the guide means comprises stringing means (35,37) extending over the rod means and coupling the rigid edge members to transfer tension forces from one edge member to the other for moving the flexible cover to expose the mirror.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 44 words
A mirror assembly as claimed in Claim 4 in which the rod means comprises a pair of spaced rods extending between sides of the frame and at the top and bottom edges of the frame and the stringing means extends over the spaced rods.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 27 words
A mirror assembly as claimed in Claim 3, 4 or 5 in which the rod means comprises a fixed rod (44,45) and a concentric roller sleeve (42).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 29 words
A mirror assembly as claimed in any one of the preceding claims comprising a visor (70,80) for a vehicle and in which the assembly is secured to the visor.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 70 words
A visor (70,80) for a vehicle charater- ised in that the visor comprises a visor body defining a housing (72) and a mirror (16) mounted to the visor body, the housing comprising an opening formed therein extending adjacent one edge of the mirror, a flexible mirror cover (30), and means (40,50) for extending and retracting the flexible mirror cover from the opening in the housing to selectively cover the mirror.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 70 words
A visor (70,80) for a vehicle charater- ised in that the visor comprises a visor body defining a housing (72) and a mirror (16) mounted to the visor body, the housing comprising an opening formed therein extending adjacent one edge of the mirror, a flexible mirror cover (30), and means (40,50) for extending and retracting the flexible mirror cover from the opening in the housing to selectively cover the mirror.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 27 words
A visor as claimed in Claim 8 in which the means for extending and retracting the flexible mirror cover comprises roller means (40,50) mounted within the housing.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 64 words
Apparatus as claimed in Claim 8 or 9 in which the housing is enlarged and extends along a top edge of the visor body and the roller means is positioned in the enlarged portion of the housing and comprises a biased roller to which one edge of the flexible cover is attached for winding the cover onto the roller for storage within the housing.
