Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim
49 words
A method of improving joint function in an animal comprising replacing at least a portion of the animal's existing joint fluid with a sterile, purified hyaluronic acid preparation being substantially free of proteins and nucleic acids and having a closely controlled high molecular weight distribution as determined by HPLC.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
49 words
A method of improving joint function in an animal comprising replacing at least a portion of the animal's existing joint fluid with a sterile, purified hyaluronic acid preparation being substantially free of proteins and nucleic acids and having a closely controlled high molecular weight distribution as determined by HPLC.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
42 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the protein content is less than about 1.25 mg/ml, the nucleic acid content is less than about 45 ug/ml and the preparation, when subjected to HPLC, is characterized by an essentially single, substantially symmetrical distribution peak.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
26 words
The method of claim 2 wherein the protein content is less than about 0.10 mg/ml and the nucleic acid content is less than about 5 ug/ml.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
12 words
The method of claim 3 wherein the hyaluronic acid preparation is bacterial-derived.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
21 words
The method of claim 4 wherein the hyaluronic acid is derived from a group A or group C hemolytic streptococcal organism.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
16 words
The method of claim 5 wherein the hyaluronic acid is derived from a Streptococcus equi organism.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
21 words
The method of claim 5 wherein the animal is a horse and the joint fluid replacement is in an extremity joint.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
27 words
The method of claim 7 wherein the hyaluronic acid has a Clinical Index of less than 6.0 as determined by the Horse Joint Reactivity Test described herein.
