Abstract

Abstract An electrical connector comprises first and second dielectric housings (10, 11) each having cavities in which male and female electrical contacts (12, 13) are respectively secured, the male electrical contacts (12) have male contact portions (12d) extending outwardly from the first housing (10) and are disposed in respective female contact portions (13b) of the female electrical contacts (13), hinge sections (18, 19, 26, 28) on the first and second housings (10, 11) hingedly connecting the housings (10, 11) together so that when the male and female electrical contacts (12, 13) are connected to respective printed circuit boards (33, 34), the boards (33, 34) can be moved from a position at which the boards (33, 34) are at right angles to a position at which the boards (33, 34) are substantially coplanar.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 135 words
An electrical connector for hingedly and electrically connecting printed circuit boards together enabling the boards to be positioned at a right angle or to be positioned substantially coplanar, the electrical connector comprises first and second dielectric housings (10, 11) having first and second electrical' contacts (12, 13) respectively secured therein which are electrically connected together, the housings (10, 11) with thqr electrical contacts (12, 13) therein being securable onto respective printed circuit boards, characterized in that: said electrical contacts (12, 13) have contact sections (12a, 13a) respectively electrically connecting each other and are movable relative to each other; said housings (10, 11) have matable sections (18, 19, 26, 28) forming a hinge enabling the boards (33, 34) to be disposed at a right angle (Figures 7A, 8A) or to be substantially coplanar (Figures 7C, 8B).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 135 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 30 words
An electrical connector as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that said contact sections (12d) are i'n the form of tongues and said contacts (13a) have a U-shape configuration.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 39 words
An electrical connector as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that said matable sections (18, 19, 26, 28) comprise flexible arms (19) on which are located projections (18) that are disposed in U-shaped recesses (26) and holes (28).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 45 words
An electrical connector as set forth in claim 3, characterized in that said projections (18) and inner surfaces of said recesses (26) have inclined surfaces (18a, 27) which flex arms (19) outwardly during engagement therebetween when the projections (18) are moved into the holes (28).
