Orthopedic fixation apparatus for bone fractures
Abstract
Abstract 1. Orthopedic apparatus for immobilizing a fractured bone (1) of the type comprising at least one rigid external fixing means (3) formed by a perforated tube which is placed on the outside of and in contact with the limb having a fractured bone and self-tapping pins (6) which are screwed into the fractured bone on each side of the fracture and which are engaged in the perforations of said tube and locked therein by locking screws (1), characterized in that said external fixing means comprises two separated perforated tubes (4, 11) disposed along the same axis in the extension of each other and connected together by a connecting tube (12), and in that one of said perforated tubes (4) is secured to said connecting tube (12) so as to be fixed, whereas the other perforated tube (11) may be moved axially along the connecting tube (12), with respect to the fixed perforated tube (4), in that the connecting tube (12) has an external threaded portion at least at its two opposite ends (12a, 12b), and in that two nuts (14, 15) are provided respectively on the threaded ends (12a, 12b) of the connecting tube (12), in the vicinity of the corresponding ends of the mobile perforated tube (11), so as to allow the mobile tube (11) to move along the tube (12) and to lock said mobile tube (11) in the desired position, by screwing said nuts (14, 15) on said threaded ends of the tube (12).
