Abstract
Abstract An arrangement allowing dynamic rotational baiancwg of a centrifuge rotor comprises a stationary flange (5) and an axially movable slide (8) forming an annular channel (11) which extends concentrically around the rotational axis of the rotor and in which there are located three independently movable balancing balls (12). The slide is normally pressed by springs (9) to engage the balls and fix their positions, and can be moved by supplying fluid to the channel to release the balls to allow them to move in the channel to balance the rotor.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim
79 words
A balancing arrangement for the rotor of a centrifugal separator, characterized by means (5, 8) fast for rotation with the rotor and defining an annular channel (11) extending concentrically around the rotational axis (2) of the rotor, at least two balancing bodies (12) received in the channel, and means (8) operable either to fix the positions of the balancing bodies in the channel or to allow independent movement of said bodies around the channel for rotationally balancing the rotor.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
17 words
An arrangement according to claim 1, wherein three balancing bodies (12) are located in the channel (11).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
32 words
An arrangement according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said operable means comprises arresting means (8) axially movable in the channel to engage and arrest the bodies or to release the bodies.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
85 words
An arrangement according to claim 1 or 2, wherein a wall of the channel (11) is formed by an axially movable annular slide (8), mechanical springs (9) act constantly on the slide to urge the slide towards a position in which it arrests the balancing bodies (12) in the channel (11), the channel (11) being arranged to enable supply of fluid thereto for movement of the slide (8) against the action of said springs (9) for releasing the balancing bodies (12) in the channel (11).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
25 words
An arrangement-according to claim 4, wherein the channel (11) has at least one throttled outlet (13) in its radially outer wall for discharging the fluid.
Claim 7
Independent Claim
71 words
A method of balancing the rotor of a centrifugal separator having an arrangement according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the balancing bodies (12) are maintained arrested in said channel (11) during the main part of the rotor operation, and in that they are released only during short periods of time to be allowed to move to new positions depending on imbalance of the rotor arising during operation.
