Abstract

Abstract A portable supplementary control system comprising a promoter/operator operably linked to a gene encoding the desired heterologous protein plus a gene encoding a compatible supplementary repressor protein operably linked to an inducible promotor, thus remedying any deficiency of repressor provided by the host's own genome, so that expression of a gene encoding a heterologous protein is repressed until a favourable point in the growth cycle of the host. The control system offers a method whereby heterologous protein production can be regulated by manipulation of the environment or of the medium.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 80 words
A control system useful in suppressing the expression of a gene encoding a protein heterologous to a prokaryotic host which system comprises: a first DNA sequence which comprises a promoter/operator operably linked to the gene encoding said protein; and a second DNA sequence which comprises an inducible promoter operably linked to the gene encoding a repressor protein compatible with the promoter/operator, and supplementary to the host; wherein the first DNA sequence and second DNA sequence are xenogeneic to the host.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 80 words
A control system useful in suppressing the expression of a gene encoding a protein heterologous to a prokaryotic host which system comprises: a first DNA sequence which comprises a promoter/operator operably linked to the gene encoding said protein; and a second DNA sequence which comprises an inducible promoter operably linked to the gene encoding a repressor protein compatible with the promoter/operator, and supplementary to the host; wherein the first DNA sequence and second DNA sequence are xenogeneic to the host.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 15 words
