Fluid friction coupling
Abstract
@ A fluid friction clutch is described, consisting of a working space arranged in a housing and a storage space for a clutch fluid separated from it by an intermediate wall, which can enter the working space from the storage space through a controllable inflow opening, and a driven clutch disc rotating in the working space, in the area of the outer circumference is assigned a through hole provided in the intermediate wall for returning the clutch fluid into the storage space. The novelty is that several leak openings distributed in the circumferential direction are provided in the intermediate wall. With this configuration, the coupling fluid located in the storage chamber, which forms a rotating fluid ring in the housing due to the rotation of the coupling housing, can enter the working chamber through the leakage openings. It has been shown that the idle speed could be increased by approximately 200 to 600 revolutions per minute.
