Claim 1
Independent Claim
70 words
A braking system for a vehicle, characterised by an apparatus for maintaining a braking force applied to the vehicle, the apparatus comprising: an electromagnetic check valve arranged in a brake actuating fluid circuit; sensing means for sensing operating conditions of the engine of the vehicle; and an electronic cdntrol unit for receiving, as inputs thereto, detection signals produced by said sensing means for controlling operation of the electromagnetic check valve.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
83 words
A braking system according to claim 1, characterised in that the sensing means includes an accelerator sensor and a clutch sensor and the electronic control unit is operable, when the vehicle is in use, to open the check valve to release braking force, which has previously been maintained by keeping the check valve closed, when the accelerator sensor detects that the accelerator is actuated after previously being unactuated, and simultaneously the clutch sensor detects that the clutch is engaged after previously being disengaged.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
29 words
A braking system according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the sensing means includes a vehicle speed sensor, an engine rotation sensor, and a gear position sensor.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
59 words
A braking system according to claimsl, 2 and 3 combined, characterised in that the electronic control unit is operable to keep the check valve closed, to matain braking force, when the sensing means indicate that, simultaneously, the accelerator is unactuated, the clutch is disengaged, the vehicle speed is zero, the engine is rotating, and a low gear is engaged.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
46 words
A braking system according to any preceding claim, characterised in that the sensing means includes a brake pedal switch and the electronic control unit is operable to keep the check valve closed, to maintain braking force, even when the brake pedal is released after being depressed.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
58 words
A braking system according to claim 4, or claims 4 and 5 combined, characterised in that the electronic control unit is operable,to open the check valve as aforesaid provided that, when the accelerator is being actuated and the clutch is being engaged, the vehicle speed remains at zero, the engine still rotates, and a low gear is engaged.
