Abstract
Abstract A method and system for transforming data transmitted from a remote information processing system (10) which operates in a first internal code format to the internal code format of a second receiving information processing system (11). The method includes a control program for operating the receiving information processing system (11) in an interactive mode with the operator. The control program displays prompts and command options to the operator which enable the operator to construct a transform table of conversion characters for the communication session. The conversion table is also useable by the control program routines to reverse the data transmission operation by converting the internal code format of the second information processing system (11) to the internal code format of the first information processing system (10) for data transmission in the opposite direction.

Interactive control method for communicating data between a first information processing system (10) which operates on internal code of a first format and a second information processing system (11) which operate on internal code of a second format different from said first format, said method transforming the communicated code of said first information processing system to the format of the code of said second information processing system and being characterized by the steps of : - displaying to an operator of the second information processing system a menu of code format transform tasks available for operator selection ; - selecting one of said code format transform tasks in response to an operator input ; - displaying a transform file of characters and control instructions of said first information processing system together with corresponding default characters and control instructions in the format of the second information processing system ; - selectively replacing certain ones of said default characters and control instructions in said transform file with characters and control instructions selected by the operator ; and - mergin said transform file into a transform program for controlling the communication of data between said information processing systems.
