Abstract

Abstract The present invention relates to an artificial vascular graft having ultra fine fibers smaller than 0.5 denier in fineness as part of the inner wall. The artificial vascular graft of this invention is very flexible and produces very low blood leakage. The ease of performing anastomoses is greatly improved. Because of the ultra fine fiber there are many sites to which live cells adhere, the adaptability of the live cells to the fibers of the vascular graft increases, an excellent antithrombotic effect is exerted by the vascular graft, and the formation of the endothelial cells is satisfactory and is observed at a very early stage.

Claim 2
Dependent Claim 17 words
An artificial vascular graft having an inner wall comprising ultra fine fibers less than about 0.5 denier.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
An artificial vascular graft as defined in claim 1, wherein said ultra fine fibers are napped.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 40 words
An artificial vascular graft as defined in claim 1 or 2, wherein said artificial vascular graft is woven or knitted fabric with multiple structure, and said fabric comprises a ground weave rising of fibers having a fineness above 1.0 denier.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 17 words
An artificial vascular graft as defined in claim 3, wherein said ground weave comprises a bulky yarn.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 23 words
An artificial vascular graft as defined in any preceding claim, wherein said artificial vascular graft has water- permeation rates not greater than 500ml/min.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 29 words
An artificial vascular graft as defined in any preceding claim, wherein said ultra fine fibers are made from polymers selected from the group consisting of polyester, polyamide and polyolefin.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 45 words
A method of fabricating an artificial fiber graft as defined in any preceding claim which comprises forming a structure from fibers comprising island-in-the-sea fibers and thereafter removing the sea component therefrom to leave the island component, which island component provides the said ultra fine fibers.
