Abstract

Abstract A pump is disclosed wherein, in order to provide switching ability between two different delivery outlets, a stator casing (16) bounds two superimposed manifold chambers (19, 20), each chamber being in communication with the pump impeller housing (15) through a respective tangential conduit. The chambers are sealed from each other by an elastic membrane (23) operative to selectively cut off valve seats (24, 25) in each manifold chamber for rotation of the pump impeller in either directions.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 126 words
A selectively controlled dual delivery pump, particularly for motor vehicle application, characterized in that it comprises an impeller (14) accommodated within a stator casing (16) wherein two superimposed manifold chambers (19,20) are defined, each chamber being in communication with the impeller housing (15) via a respective tangential conduit (21,22), and in that said manifold chambers (19,20) are sealed from each other by an elastic membrane (23) effective to selectively cut off valve seats in each of said manifold chambers (19,20) according to the pressure differential acting on the faces of said membrane (23) on rotation of said impeller (14) in either directions, said pressure differential producing a high pressure condition in one tangential conduit (21) and a low pressure condition in the other tangential conduit (22).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 126 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 41 words
A pump according to Claim 1, characterized in that said tangential conduits (21,22) extend symmetrically to the pump midplane and open into said impeller housing (15) at the level of the impeller lower half (15a) and upper half (15b) , respectively.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 52 words
A pump according to Claims 1 and 2, characterized in that each of said manifold chambers (19,20) is provided with a raised center annular lip (24,25) forming a valve seat adapted to cooperate with said membrane (23), each of said valve seats (24,25) being in communication with a respective delivery manifold (26,27).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 58 words
A pump according to the preceding claims, characterized in that said membrane (23) comprises a peripheral lip (23a) of 0-ring configuration adapted to cooperate for retention and to provide a seal with a groove in said stator casing (16), and a thickened center portion (23b) adapted to cooperate with said valve seats (24,25) of said manifold chambers (19,20).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
A pump according to the preceding claims, characterized in that said manifold chambers (19,20) have circular shapes and are located laterally to said impeller housing (15).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 23 words
A selectively controlled dual delivery pump, particularly for motor vehicle application, according to the preceding claims, and substantially as herein described and illustrated.
