Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim
169 words
A non-invasive, electro-optical sensor probe for attachment to a patient, for use in measuring light extinction in a portion of blood-perfused tissue of the patient, comprising a flexible strip member for attachment to and conformance with the contours of the cutaneous layer, a light source (120) and a photo sensor (119) mounted on the flexible strip member, and adhesive attachment means (140), wherein the flexible strip member comprises first and second flexibly interconnected parts (118 and 117); said light source (120) is mounted on the first strip part (118); said light sensor (119) is mounted on the second strip part (117) so that the cutaneous layer may be transilluminated; said adhesive is distributed over the surface of the strip member; and the light source (120) and the light sensor (119) are embedded in the strip parts so that the strip member may be attached to the cutaneous layer in conforming contact therewith to distribute forces over the cutaneous layer and to minimise construction of blood perfusion in the flesh.

Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
14 words
A sensor probe as claimed in claim 1 wherein the strip member is opaque.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
65 words
A sensor probe as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 2 adapted for placement on a patient's extremity, wherein the extremity is a digit, wherein the strip parts of the sensor are relatively wider than the medial portion intermediate between first and second strip part of the sensor, and wherein the medial portion is adapted for placement over the tip of the digit.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
79 words
A sensor probe as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3 adapted for transilluminating a portion of the patient's nasal septum, wherein the strip member is adapted and arranged for placement against and in close conformance with the patient's nose, and wherein the light source (120) and the photo sensor (119) are mounted on the strip member so as to be located on either side of the ridge of the nose when the sensor is in place.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
31 words
A sensor probe as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 further comprising a flexible foam layer (148) disposed between the adhesive attachment means (140) and the strip member.
