Abstract

Abstract A catalyst component for the polymerization of olefins and particularly ethylene which is prepared by contacting a contact product of a magnesium alkoxide, a halogenated hydrocarbon, a halogenated silane with a titanium compound. The catalyst component in combination with a organoaluminum cocatalyst is useful for the polymerization of ethylene having a high melt index.

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 125 words
A catalyst component for use in the polymerization of olefins which is obtained by contacting a magnesium compound of the formula Mg(OR) (OR') (wherein R and R', which may be the same or different, each represent an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl group), a halogenated hydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of mono or polyhalogen substituted compounds of saturated or unsaturated aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbons, and a titanium compound, characterized in that a halogenated silane of the formula R" n SiX 4-m (wherein R" is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, X is a halogen atom and m is 0, 1, 2 or 3), is also contacted with the magnesium compound, the halogenated hydrocarbon and the titanium.compound.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 125 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 31 words
A catalyst component as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the magnesium compound and the halogenated hydrocarbon are contacted with the halogenated silane prior to contact with the titanium compound.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
The catalyst component of claim 2, wherein the magnesium compound is contacted sequentially with the halogenated hydrocarbon, the halogenated silane and the titanium compound.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 28 words
The catalyst component of claim 3, wherein the contact product of contacting the magnesium compound, halogenated hydrocarbon and silane is washed prior to contact with the titanium compound.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
The catalyst component of claim 3 or claim 4, wherein the magnesium compound is contacted with a magnesium halide prior to contact with the halogenated hydrocarbon.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 61 words
The catalyst component of any of claims 1 to 5, wherein the titanium compound is represented by the formula Ti n (OR''') x (X') y wherein R''' is an alkyl or aryl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, X' is chloride or bromide, and n is 2, 3 or 4 and the sum of x + y is n.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 71 words
A catalyst for the polymerization of olefins comprising (a) an organoaluminum compound represented by the formula R'''' n AlX 3-n , wherein R'''' is an alkyl or aryl group, X" is a halogen atom, alkoxy group or hydrogen atom, and is in the range of 1 ≤ n ≤ 3, and (b) a catalyst component characterized in that the catalyst component is as claimed in any of claims 1 to 6.
Claim 9
