Abstract

Abstract The construction element comprises a body (1) which has resiliently openable jaws (2) at least at one end thereof which are locatable between similar jaws (2) of a further construction element with the jaws of the respective elements in mutually transverse planes. The jaws have an open front (4) defined between free ends (3) thereof whereby said jaws locate each other with the free ends of the jaws of each element resiliently engaging retention means (7) on the other element.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 97 words
A construction element comprising a body (1) having resiliently openable jaws (2) thereon locatable between similar jaws (2) of a further construction element with the jaws of the respective elements arranged in mutually transverse planes, said jaws defining an open front end (4) between free ends (3) thereof characterised in that a jaw retention surface (7) is provided on the body (l) whereby said jaws (2) locate each other with the free ends (3) of the jaws of each element co-operating with said retention surface (7) on the other element to inhibit relative movement between the elements.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 97 words
A construction element comprising a body (1) having resiliently openable jaws (2) thereon locatable between similar jaws (2) of a further construction element with the jaws of the respective elements arranged in mutually transverse planes, said jaws defining an open front end (4) between free ends (3) thereof characterised in that a jaw retention surface (7) is provided on the body (l) whereby said jaws (2) locate each other with the free ends (3) of the jaws of each element co-operating with said retention surface (7) on the other element to inhibit relative movement between the elements.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 58 words
A construction element according to claim 1 characterised in that the jaws (2) have a closed rear end (5) so that when the jaws are located in the similar jaws the free ends (3) of the jaws of each element are positioned behind the closed rear end of the other jaws for engagement with the retention surface (7).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 36 words
A construetion element according to claim 1 or 2 eharacterised in that the free end (3) of each jaw of the element engages a plurality of spaced points on said retention surface of the similar element.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 52 words
A construction element according to claim 3 characterised in that the closed rear end (5) of the element lies adjacent a surface defining a substantially linear portion (8a), whereby the free end of each jaw of the element will engage the similar element along the linear portion (Sa) or at points thereon.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 41 words
A construction element according to claim 4 characterised in that the free end section of each jaw (2) of the element engages a point on the body of said similar element spaced from said linear portion (8a) or said points thereon.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 36 words
A construction element according to claim 5 characterised in that the body is formed with a groove adjacent said end seetion (6) and said point on the body is a point on part of said groove.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 35 words
A construction element according to any preceding claim characterised in that the free ends (3) of the jaws (2) of each element engage the retention surface (7) of the other element in a snap-fit manner.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 81 words
A construction element according to any preceding claim characterised in that the body (1) is elongate and has the jaws (2) at. one end and a jaw locating member (13, 20) at its other end extending transversely of the body and arranged so that when the jaws (2) of said similar construction element are located on the member (23, 20) they lie in a plane transverse to the plane containing the jaws (2) at said one end of the body (1).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 25 words
A construction element according to claim 7 characterised in that the jaw locating member comprises a transverse bar (13, 20) mounted on said body (1).
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 35 words
A construction element according to claim 7 or 8 characterised in that mear (14, I4 1 , 7) is provided for inhibiting rotational movement of located jaws (2) at said jaw locating member (13, 20).
