Control unit for controlling a field-sensitive display device by means of semiconductor elements
Abstract
Abstract A substrate (2) has first electrode segments (3) of a controlled liquid crystal display (1) which also has second electrode segments (10). To control the display segments, a first element electrode (4) is applied to every first electrode segment (3) and a semiconductor element (5) having a second element electrode (6) is applied to the former. All the second element electrodes (6) are connected groupwise to address lines (7). In every semiconductor element (5) having a thin-film structure there is a potential barrier whose height above a threshold value of the applied voltage, together with the concentration of charge carriers released externally, modifies the current through the semiconductor element. The variation in the potential barrier is determined by the concentration of doping atoms and traps. This symmetrically controllable display device has a steep characteristic and also an easily producible, large-area integrated structure. <IMAGE>
