Abstract

Abstract A computer system is disclosed wherein an instruction is executed, the results of the execution of the instruction are stored, and, simultaneously with the execution of the instruction, information is generated and stored which is related to the results of the execution of the instruction. The results of the execution of the instruction may comprise a binary number. The information which is generated, simultaneously with the execution of the instruction, includes, inter-alia, a count of the number of binary "1" bits and binary "0" bits which constitute the binary number, and a set of addresses representing the address locations of each bit of the binary number which constitutes the stored results of the execution of the instruction. The set of addresses include a first set of addresses representing address locations for all the binary "1" bits and a second set of addresses representing address locations for all the binary "0" bits of the binary number. The first set of addresses are stored in a first portion of a memory, the second set of addresses being stored in a second portion of the memory. As a result, the information is immediately available upon completion of the execution of the instruction.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 106 words
Computer system including a storage hierarchy, processing units, I/O controls and first means for executing an instruction, characterized by second means (16a) connected to the first means for storing a set of results representative of the results of the execution of said instruction; and third means (32 and 34) connected to the second means for monitoring the storage of said set of results, said third means generating and storing information related to said set of results simultaneously with the storage of said set of results in said second means; whereby said information is immediately available upon the completion of the storage of said set of results.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 106 words
Computer system including a storage hierarchy, processing units, I/O controls and first means for executing an instruction, characterized by second means (16a) connected to the first means for storing a set of results representative of the results of the execution of said instruction; and third means (32 and 34) connected to the second means for monitoring the storage of said set of results, said third means generating and storing information related to said set of results simultaneously with the storage of said set of results in said second means; whereby said information is immediately available upon the completion of the storage of said set of results.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 95 words
Computer system of claim 1, characterized in that said set of results comprises a binary number and wherein said information related to said results includes a count of the number of similar binary bits which constitute said binary number, wherein said binary number includes a plurality of binary Is and Os; wherein said information related to said results includes a count of the number of binary Is which constitute said binary number; and wherein said information related to said results further includes a count of the number of binary Os which constitute said binary number.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 42 words
Computer system of claim 2, characterized in that said information related to said results further includes a set of addresses representative of the respective locations of each of the similar binary bits which constitute said binary number stored in said second means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 47 words
Computer system of claim 3, characterized in that said binary number comprises a plurality of Is and Os, and wherein said set of addresses corresponds, respectively, to the location of each of the binary Is and Os which constitute said binary number stored in said second means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 161 words
Computer system of claim 1, characterized in that third means comprises counter means (32) responsive to said second means for providing said count of the number of similar binary bits which constitute said binary number; first storage means (34f) for storing said set of addresses indicative of the location of each of the similar binary bits which comprise said binary number representing said results stored in said second means; second storage means (34c and 34d) connected to said first storage means for receiving an address from among said set of addresses stored in said first storage means and for storing said address; and selection means (34e) interconnected between said first storage means and connected to said second storage means and responsive to the execution of said instruction by said means for enabling the selection of said address from said set of addresses stored in said first storage means and for enabling the transfer of said address to said second storage means.
