Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 77 words
A process for chlorinating hydroquinone to obtain a chlorinated mixture containing a major proportion of chlorohydroquinone comprising adding sulfuryl chloride to a slurry or solution of hydroquinone and glacial acetic acid or an alkyl ester having 2-8 carbon atoms, the mole ratio of sulfuryl chloride to hydroquinone being in the range of from about 0.8 to about 1.2 when the glacial acetic acid is employed and from about 0.55 to about 1.2 when alkyl ester is employed.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 77 words
A process for chlorinating hydroquinone to obtain a chlorinated mixture containing a major proportion of chlorohydroquinone comprising adding sulfuryl chloride to a slurry or solution of hydroquinone and glacial acetic acid or an alkyl ester having 2-8 carbon atoms, the mole ratio of sulfuryl chloride to hydroquinone being in the range of from about 0.8 to about 1.2 when the glacial acetic acid is employed and from about 0.55 to about 1.2 when alkyl ester is employed.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
The process of claim 1 wherein enough glacial acetic acid or alkyl ester is present to provide a solution of the hydroquinone and chlorinated reaction product.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
3 . The process of claim 1 wherein 0.65-0.90 mole of sulfuryl chloride is present per mole of hydroquinone when alkyl ester is employed.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process of claim 3 wherein the alkyl ester has 2-4 carbon atoms.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 12 words
The process of claim 3 wherein the alkyl ester is ethyl acetate.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 69 words
A process for preparing a melt-spinnable anisotropic-melt forming polyester by reacting chlorohydroquinone with other monomers comprising adding sulfuryl chloride to a slurry or solution of hydroquinone and glacial acetic acid, the mole ratio of sulfuryl chloride to hydroquinone being in the range of from about 0.8 to about 1.2 to obtain a chlorinated mixture, acetylating the mixture by heating with acetic anhydride, adding appropriate monomers and polymerizing the mixture.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 69 words
A process for preparing a melt-spinnable anisotropic-melt forming polyester by reacting chlorohydroquinone with other monomers comprising adding sulfuryl chloride to a slurry or solution of hydroquinone and glacial acetic acid, the mole ratio of sulfuryl chloride to hydroquinone being in the range of from about 0.8 to about 1.2 to obtain a chlorinated mixture, acetylating the mixture by heating with acetic anhydride, adding appropriate monomers and polymerizing the mixture.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 75 words
7 . A process for preparing a melt-spinnable anisotropic-melt forming polyester by reacting chlorohydroquinone with other monomers comprising adding sulfuryl chloride to a slurry or solution of hydroquinone and an alkyl ester having 2-8 carbon atoms, the mole ratio of sulfuryl chloride to hydroquinone being in the range of from about 0.55 to about 1.2 to obtain a chlorinated mixture, acetylating the mixture by heating with acetic anhydride, adding appropriate monomers and polymerizing the mixture.
Claim 10
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
A fiber produced from the polymer resulting from a process as claimed in claim 6 or claim 7.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 19 words
A melt-extruded bar when produced from the polymer resulting from a process claimed in claim 6 or claim 7.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 20 words
