Abstract

Abstract An extrusion head (10) is disclosed, for extruding weather strips (1) of elastomeric material, particularly for motor vehicles, of the type comprising an anchoring section (2) and a longitudinal sealing section in the form of a tab (3) coextruded with the anchoring section (2). The extrusion head (10) comprises a die (11) with an extrusion orifice (12) having a shape corresponding to the cross-section of the weather strip (1) to be extruded, and a deflector device (18) adapted, when actuated, to change the inclination or orientation of the sealing section (3) relative to the anchoring section (2) during extrusion.

Extrusion head for extruding weather strips (1) of elastomeric material, particularly for motor vehicles, comprising an anchoring section (2) and a longitudinal sealing section (3) in the form of a tab coextruded with the anchoring section, the extrusion head (10) comprising a die (11) with an extrusion orifice (12) having a shape corresponding to the cross-section of the weather strip (1) to be extruded, characterised in that it includes a deflector device (18) adapted, when actuated, to change the inclination or orientation of the sealing section (3) relative to the anchoring section (2) during extrusion.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 95 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 42 words
Extrusion head according to Claim 1, characterised in that the deflector device (18) is arranged to cause, at the outlet from the extrusion die (11), effectively a rotation of the sealing section (3) about its line of attachment to the anchoring section.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 187 words
Extrusion head according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterised in that the deflector device comprises a deflector member (18) having a deflection surface (18c) with an initial profile (18d) corresponding essentially to the profile of one face of the tab (3) of the weather strip (1) at the outlet from the extrusion die (11), and connected, with continuous variation, to a final profile (18e) having a predetermined orientation or inclination different from that of initial profile (18d), the deflector device (18) being intended to be mounted for movement relative to the extrusion orifice (12) between a rest position in which the deflection surface (18c) does not interfere with the weather strip (1) leaving the extrusion die (11), and a working position in which the deflection surface (18c) is located adjacent the extrusion orifice (12) with the initial and final profiles (18d, 18e) along the direction of output of the weather strip (1), so that the tab (3) leaving the extrusion die (11) slides in contact with the deflection surface (18c) and is plastically deformed to gradually assume the final profile (18e) of the deflection surface (18c).
Claim 5
Independent Claim 247 words
A method for extruding weather strip (1) of elastomeric material, particularly for motor vehicles, of the kind comprising an anchoring section (2) and a longitudinal sealing section (3) in the form of a tab coextruded with the anchoring section (2), by means of an extrusion head (10) comprising a die (11) with an extrusion orifice (12) having a shape corresponding to the cross-section of the weather strip (1) to be extruded, characterised in that it comprises providing a deflector device (18) having a deflection surface (18c) with an initial profile (18d) corresponding substantially to the profile of one face of the tab (3) of the weather strip (1) at the outlet from the extrusion die (11), and connected, with continuous. variation, to a final profile (18e) having a predetermined orientation or inclination different from that of the initial profile (18d), and moving, during the extrusion, the deflector device (18) relative to the extrusion orifice (12) between a rest position in which the deflection surface (18c) does not interfere with the weather strip (1) leaving the extrusion die (11), and a working position in which the deflection surface (18c) is located adjacent the extrusion orifice (12) with the initial and final profiles (18d; 18e) along the direction of output of the weather strip (1) whereby the tab (3) leaving the extrusion die (11) slides in contact with the deflection surface (18c) and is plas- stically deformed to gradually assume the final profile (18e) of the deflection surface (18c).
