Abstract
Abstract An expander for continuously expanding a pipe made from a thermoplastic material comprises a plurality of spindles 36 spaced about a central axis and arranged to be located within the pipe. The spindles are divergent in a downstream direction and are driven in rotation about the central axis and about their own respective axes by a motor 24. The spindles may each have a helical rib 42 for use in expanding a corrugated pipe.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
47 words
A method of making an article comprising molding the article of a thermoplastic material having a particulate filler distributed therein, characterised by the step of expanding the article to form fissures between the thermoplastic material and particles of the filler and thus to form a porous article.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
47 words
A method of making an article comprising molding the article of a thermoplastic material having a particulate filler distributed therein, characterised by the step of expanding the article to form fissures between the thermoplastic material and particles of the filler and thus to form a porous article.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
16 words
A method according to claim 1, characterised by being applied to the manufacture of a pipe.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
28 words
A method according to claim 2, characterised by the steps of cooling the pipe after it has been molded, and heating the cooled pipe before it is expanded.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
23 words
A method according to claim 2 or claim 3 characterised in that the pipe is corrugated before or during expansion of the pipe.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
27 words
A porous article characterised by a matrix of thermoplastic material, a particulate filler distributed in the matrix and fissures in the matrix adjacent particles of the filler.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
27 words
A porous article characterised by a matrix of thermoplastic material, a particulate filler distributed in the matrix and fissures in the matrix adjacent particles of the filler.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
14 words
An article according to claim 5, characterised in that the article is a pipe.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
14 words
A pipe according to claim 5 or claim 6 wherein the filler is inorganic.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
12 words
A pipe according to claim 6 wherein the filler is water absorbent.
