Abstract

Abstract An apparatus reads and/or records information on a disc 3 by means of a light beam 20, which disc rotates about an axis of rotation 2 and is driven by a drive spindle 31 which is journalled in a spindle support 30, an objective 1 being moved along two parallel guides 9 by means of a slide 6 in a radial di- ection relative to the axis of rotation 2. All parts of an opto-electronic system for producing the light beam and for effect- ng a conversion between optical and electrical modulation may be arranged on the slide but may alternatively form part of a stationarily arranged opto-electronic system 33. At least the spindle support 30 or the stationarily arranged opto-electronic system 33 is supported by the guides 9, for example by means of supports 39 and 40 which are formed with locating surfaces which cooperate with the guides 9A and 9B.

Total Claims: 2
Claim 1
Independent Claim 223 words
Apparatus for recording and/or reading information on a disc (3) by means of a radiation beam (20), which disc is rotatable about an axis of rotation (2), the apparatus comprising: - a stationary frame (5), - a drive means (30) for the rotary drive of the disc (3), which drive means comprises adrive spindle (31) which is rotatable about said axis of rotation and is supported by a stationarily arranged spindle support provided with bearing means for the drive spindle, - a slide (6) which is movable in a radial direction relative to said axis of rotation (2), - a parallel-guide arrangement for the slide (6), which arrangement comprises two parallel guides (9) which are detachably secured to the frame (5) at a distance from each other, and - an opto-electronic system (33) which may or may not be stationarily arranged and which comprises a light source (34), one or more optical elements (35-37) and means (38) for effecting a conversion between optical and electrical modulation of the information, characterized in that - the spindle support (30) and/or the opto-electronic system (33) if the latter is stationarily arranged are or is supported by the two parallel guides (9) and are or is provided with locating surfaces which cooperate with the guides for accurate positioning of the spindle support and/or the opto-electronic system respectively.
