Abstract

Process and device for burning solid fuels, preferably coal, in pulverized form, which are mixed with a carrier liquid such as water and / or oil or the like to form an emulsion, the fuel emulsion being passed through an approximately annular inlet opening (10) for this purpose. is injected into a combustion chamber (22) so that an approximately hollow-cone-like flow profile is created. Within this flow profile, a negative pressure (area 60) is built up directly behind the inlet opening (10) for the fuel emulsion opening into the combustion chamber (22), so that some of the hot combustion gases and a remainder of unburned fuel particles recirculate to the inlet opening (64). In addition, gas inlet openings (12, 12 ', 14, 16, 18, 20) are provided in the end face (42) of the combustion chamber (22), through which gas or air flows out, the flow path of which is concentric and helical to the axis (40) of the in the combustion chamber (22) opening inlet opening (10) for the fuel emulsion. As a result, the fuel emulsion injected into the combustion chamber (22) undergoes a 'rotational movement, as a result of which the hollow-cone-like flow profile is greatly fanned out or widened into a bell-shaped or apple-shaped profile (66). The measures mentioned allow an extremely long particle path (68) to be achieved over the shortest distance along the central axis (40) of the combustion chamber (22). A practically complete combustion within an extremely short combustion chamber (22) is guaranteed.
