Switching system for fixed-length synchronous packets
Abstract
The system switches header packets from incoming junctions to outgoing junctions. Means (CE1, ..., CE16, MRE) transform the serial packets of the incoming multiplexes into parallel packets. Means transmit to the address inputs of a control memory (MC) the header and the identification of the original incoming junction of each incoming packet. The output of the memory (MC) delivers a new translated header assigned to the incoming packet in substitution for the original header so as to form, with the rest of the incoming packet, the outgoing parallel packet. A buffer memory (M1, ..., Mn) is cyclically activated in writing, to memorize outgoing packets. Means (MRS) transform each outgoing parallel read in the buffer memory, into a serial packet assigned to the destination multiplex (s). Queues store the addresses of the packets present in the buffer memory and are selectively validated in writing according to information from the memory (MC). Each queue is assigned to an outgoing junction. Means sensitive to a signal indicating the activation of any of the outgoing junctions read the address contained in the corresponding queue so as to find, in the buffer memory, the outgoing stake intended for the junction.
