Abstract

Abstract Strand break detector for monitoring a number of straightened strands (15) extending along a number of predetermined paths, with regard to a broken or missing strand. The strand break detector comprises an optical transmitter (19) with light-percepting means (20) arranged to supply, at relative motion between strands and transmitter transversely of the strands, a signal for each passing strand. A shield (21) is arranged as a spacer in front of the light-percepting means and forms an inlet for light to the light-percepting means and a slide surface (22A, 22B) for guiding the strands past the light inlet, the strands bulging in engagement with the slide surface, at relative movement between the strands and the transmitter. The shield is arranged as a spacer between the light-percepting means and the strands. The strand break detector also includes an electronic circuit for receiving and processing the signal from the transmitter.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 144 words
Strand break detector for monitoring a number of straightened strands (15) extending along a number of predetermined paths, with regard to a broken or missing strand, comprising an optical transmitter (19) with light-percepting means (20), arranged to supply, at relative motion between strands and transmitter transversely of the strands, a signal for each passing strand, and an electronic circuit (24-45) for receiving and processing the signal from the transmitter, characterized in that a shield (21) is arranged in front of the light-percepting means (20), forming an inlet (23) for light to the light-percepting means and a slide surface (22A, 22B) for guiding the strands past the light inlet, the strands bulging in engagement with the slide surface, at relative movement between the strands and the transmitter transversely of the strands, the shield being arranged as a spacer between the light-percepting means and the strands.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 144 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 28 words
Strand break detector as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the shield (21) is opaque, the light inlet being arranged as an aperture (23) in the shield.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 33 words
Strand break detector as claimed in claim 2, characterized in that the aperture (23) is elongated transversely of the relative movement between the strands (15) and the transmitter (19) transversely of the strands.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
Strand break detector as claimed in claim 2 or 3, characterized in that the light--percepting means (20) and the shield (21) define a space with inlet and outlet for circulating air through the space.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
Strand break detector as claimed in claim 4, characterized in that the aperture (23) arranged as light inlet in the shield (21) forms said outlet.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 19 words
Strand break detector as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the shield is made of a transparent material.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
Strand break detector as claimed in any of claims 1 - 6, characterized in that the slide surface comprises a curved portion (22A).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 28 words
Strand break detector as claimed in claims 2 and 7, characterized in that the aperture (23) is located centrally of a depression (22B) in the curved portion (22A).
