Abstract
Abstract A hydraulic control system comprises a line pressure regulator valve (1102) which uses a spring (1152; 1154) with a non-uniform spring rate. A spring (1152; 1154) is compressed between a pressure regulating element (1148) and a member movable (1150) responsive to a reduction ratio between drive and driven pulleys. A length of the spring (1152; 1154) is varied by the member (1150) with variation in the reduction ratio. The line pressure regulator valve (1102) generates a line pressure having non-linear characteristic with respect to the variation in the reduction ratio.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
146 words
In a hydraulic control system for a continuously variable V-belt transmission having a drive pulley, a driven pulley and a V-belt running over the drive and driven pulleys, a line pressure regulator valve means for generating a line pressure, said line pressure generating valve means comprising a pressure regulating element, a member movable responsive to a reduction ratio between the drive and driven pulleys, and spring means acting between said pressure. regulating element and said member, said member being movable relative to said pressure regulating element to vary a length of said spring means in response to the reduction ratio, said spring means being operative to bias said pressure regulating element with a force which varies at a different rate for variation in said length thereof, said pressure regulating element being movable in response to said force and said line pressure for effecting regulation of pressure.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
17 words
A hydraulic control system as claimed in claim 1, wherein said pressure regulating element includes a spool.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
24 words
A hydraulic control system as claimed in claim 1, wherein said spring means comprises a plurality of helical compression springs having different free lengths.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
