Chair having a seat support (5), a seat plate (1), which comprises a front plate portion (2), which is rigidly connected to the seat support (5), and a rear plate portion (3), which is connected to the front plate portion so as to be pivotable about a horizontal transverse axis, with at least one resilient accumulator (38; 47), which attempts to tilt the rear plate portion (3) upwards, and a back rest, which is also inclined when the rear plate portion (3) is inclined, characterised by a support arm (25), which is pivotably connected to the seat support (5), which is acted upon by the resilient accumulator (38; 47), which bears a back rest, which supports the rear plate portion via a guide bar (27), and which is mounted beneath the seat plate (1) on the seat support (5) between the Pivotable mounting of the rear plate portion (3) and the guide bar (27).
