Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
A sulphonated, porous, cross-linked polymeric material as claimed in claim 1, in which the polymer to be .sulphonated has a pore volume greater than 8 cc/g.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 25 words
A sulphonated, porous, cross-linked polymeric material as claimed in claim 1 or 2, in which the degree of sulphonation is greater than 15% styrene equivalent.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
A sulphonated-, porous, cross-linked polymeric material as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, in which at least 15% of the monomers to be polymerised are capable of being sulphonated.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 75 words
A sulphonated porous, cross-linked polymeric material as claimed in claim 2 in a dried collapsed form in which the pore volume is in the range 8 to 99.5 cc/g and in which the degree of cross-linking is related to the pore volume and is in the range 0.5 to 8% and in which the weight percentage sulphonation is related to the pore volume and degree of cross-linking and in the range 60 to 15 respectively.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 30 words
A polymeric material in a dried collapsed form as claimed in claim 5, in which the bulk density of the polymer in the collapsed form is greater than 0.5 g/cc.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 30 words
A sulphonated porous, cross-linked polymeric material as claimed in claim 2 in which the level of cross-linking is less than 10% and the degree of sulphonation is greater than 60%.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 42 words
A sulphonated porous, cross-linked polymeric material as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which the pore volume is greater than 35cc/g and the level of cross-linking is between 5 and 20% and the degree of sulphonation is above 85%.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 74 words
A process for the preparation of a sulphonated, porous, homogenous, cross-linked polymeric material as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which a high internal phase emulsion system is prepared by the slow addition of an aqueous internal phase to a monomer phase comprising hydrocarbon monomer and emulsifying agent, using moderate shear stirring and the emulsion is thermally polymerised in a container and the porous polymeric structure produced sulphonated by known means.
