Abstract

Abstract A animal pen comprises an animal receiving structure (11) having door means adjacent the rear end (15) of the structure to enable the animal to enter the pen (10), first fluid operated power means (52) to actuate an advancing means (29a, 29b) which is adapted to engage the rear of the animal to urge the animal forwardly in the structure (11), second fluid operated power means (40) to actuate yoke means (35) which are adapted to close around a front part, for example, around the neck of the animal to restrain the front part from movement.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 103 words
An animal pen comprises an animal receiving structure (11) having door means (31) adjacent the rear end (15) of the structure to enable the animal to enter the pen (10), characterised in that first and second fluid operated power means (52, 40) are provided, the first power means (52) being arranged to actuate an advancing means (29a, 29b) which is adapted to engage the rear of the animal to urge the animal forwardly in the structure (11), the second fluid operated power means (40) being arranged to actuate yoke means (35) which are adapted to close around a front part of the animal.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 103 words
An animal pen comprises an animal receiving structure (11) having door means (31) adjacent the rear end (15) of the structure to enable the animal to enter the pen (10), characterised in that first and second fluid operated power means (52, 40) are provided, the first power means (52) being arranged to actuate an advancing means (29a, 29b) which is adapted to engage the rear of the animal to urge the animal forwardly in the structure (11), the second fluid operated power means (40) being arranged to actuate yoke means (35) which are adapted to close around a front part of the animal.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 30 words
A pen according to Claim 1 characterised in that the door means (31) comprises a part of the advancing means (29a,29b) which engages the rear of the animal when actuated.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 44 words
A pen according to Claim 1 or Claim 2 characterised in that the animal receiving structure (11) comprises a framework of elongate members connected together to provide various openings through which an operation may be carried out on an animal received in the pen.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
A pen according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that the first fluid operated power means (52) act between a fixed part (33) of the structure and the advancing means (29a,29b).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 85 words
A pen according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that the yoke means (35) comprise a pair of closure members (35) carried on tracks (34) within the structure (11), the tracks extending inwardly and forwardly within the structure (11) so that an animal is urged forwardly by the advancing means (29a, 29b) so that the head of the animal is in front of the closure members (35) whereby the closure members (35) are closable around the neck of the animal, from behind.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 32 words
A pen according to Claim 5 characterised in that the closure members (35) of the yoke means are actuated by one or more hydraulic rams (40) through a link means (41, 42).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 36 words
A pen according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that the structure (11) has one or more doors (23. 25, 26) openable to enable an operation to be carried out on an animal.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 28 words
A pen according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that the pen has a hydraulic system including hydraulic rams (40, 52) and control valves (46).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 32 words
A pen according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that the pen has means (60) to lift an animal in the structure (11) or a part of the animal.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 61 words
A method of restraining an animal comprising the steps of causing the animal to enter an animal pen (10) according to any one of Claims 1 to 9, through a rear door (31) thereof, actuating the advancing means (29a,29b) to urge the animal forwardly in the structure actuating the yoke means (35) to close around a front part of the animal.
