Information system
Abstract
Abstract An information system comprises several databases and terminals (E). From each terminal (E), connecting paths (V1 to V4) lead to each database. Each terminal (E) comprises a processor (44), a memory (46), a translation device (48) and a connecting unit (50). In the memory (46), data are stored which identify physical and/or logical parameters of the connecting paths (V1 to V4), and key words of technical fields stored in the databases. The key words are output to the user on request and, upon entering a key word, he receives the output of the addresses of the databases to which the key word applies. Upon entering the address of a database, the processor (44) automatically sets up a connection to this database. During the dialogue with the database, the user of the terminal (E) uses a higher-level command language which is translated by the translation device (48) into the database-specific command language, and vice versa. <IMAGE>
