Abstract

Abstract A wire frame aid (34) is received over the cable (14) and the connector part that carries the coupling housing (13). At one end of the frame coded keys (25) interlockingly engage keys (15) and keyways (16) on the outer surface of the coupling housing (13). The aid (34) is gripped by one or both hands when it is desired to rotate the housing providing greater purchase of the hand and additional leverage for opening or closing the connector, as the case may be. An elongated slotlike opening (23) enables the aid to be slipped on and off the cable (14) and connector (10), as desired. In a second version, an elongated hollow metal body (26) having a bore sufficient to permit receipt onto the cable has an enlarged threaded end (27) which is received onto a similarly threaded portion (28) of the coupling housing. The end portion (30) of the metal body opposite the threaded end is provided with transversely extending parts (32,33) which can be gripped with the hand or fingers, or with a suitable tool during use.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 146 words
An aid for use in coupling and decoupling a plug and receptacle connector, the plug having a coupling housing (13) that is rotatable to couple and decouple the connector depending on the direction of rotation, and a cable (14) connected to the plug, characterised by: a member (34,26) adapted for holding in the hand with a bore extending therethrough having a first opening (at 17,27) of sufficient size to enable receipt onto the coupling housing and a second opening (at 18,31) of sufficient size to enable receipt of the cable; means (25,28) on the interior member wall defining the first opening for releasable torque-resisting engagement with the coupling housing; and first and second means (19,20; 32,33) extending from opposite sides of the member immediately adjacent and transversely of the member second opening, for enabling torque to be applied to the member for rotating the coupling housing.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 146 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 20 words
An aid as in claim 1, in which the member is constructed of springlike wire elements formed into a frame.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 50 words
An aid as in claim 1 or claim 2, in which the member includes a slotlike opening (23) in a wall extending the full length of the member, the wall being resilient to enable the slotlike opening to be widened to enable receipt of the cable (14) within the bore.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 35 words
An aid as in any preceding claim in which the releasable engaging means includes at least one lug (25) which is fittingly receivable within a keyway (16) on the outer surface of the coupling housing.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
An aid as in claim 1, in which the first opening (27) is threaded for engagement with a similarly threaded portion (28) of the coupling housing.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 27 words
An aid as in claim 5, in which the member and first and second torque applying means extending from the member are an integral one-piece cast construction.
